La Fiat 131 Abarth a été construite sur le châssis de la berline Fiat à deux portes. Le développement réalisé par Abarth a envisagé plusieurs modifications et améliorations à partir de la réduction du poids corporel en utilisant des matériaux plus légers. Puis de nouvelles ailes, pour permettre l'adoption de roues plus grandes, ont été installées et de nouvelles prises d'air sur le capot et sur les côtés pour optimiser le refroidissement de la mécanique ont été conçues. Le moteur était un moteur longitudinal à 4 cylindres caractérisé par l'utilisation d'une culasse en alliage léger et de 4 soupapes par cylindre. La Fiat 131 Abarth a été construite à partir de 1976 et elle a été utilisée dans le championnat du monde des rallyes où elle a obtenu des résultats importants en tant que championnat de trois constructeurs, un championnat de pilotes et un trophée FIA. Elle a participé à des compétitions internationales jusqu'en 1982, date à laquelle elle a été remplacée par les voitures de la marque Lancia. L'une des victoires les plus célèbres a été le prestigieux rallye de San Remo de 1977. La voiture Fiat a connu son succès avec des pilotes notables tels que J.C. Andruet et C. Delferrier.

The Fiat 131 Abarth was built on the frame of the two-door Fiat sedan. The development made by Abarth considered several modifications and improvements starting from the reduction of the body weight using lighter materials. Then some new fenders, to permit the adoption of larger wheels, were installed and new air-intakes on the hood and on the sides to optimize the cooling of the mechanics were designed. The engine was a 4-cylinder longitudinal engine characterised by the use light alloy head and 4 valves per cylinder. The Fiat 131 Abarth was built from 1976 and it was used in the World Rally Championship where achieved important results as three manufacturers’ championship, one pilots’ championship and one FIA trophy. It took part in international competitions until 1982 when it was replaced by the Lancia brand cars. One of the most famous victories was the prestigious1977 San Remo Rally. The Fiat car achieved its success with notable drivers such as J.C. Andruet and C. Delferrier.
